MUDPOT!!!

I love these things.  Though it's kind of hard to believe it's totally safe walking/driving around a park when this is happening 24 hours / day.

Are those mudpots steaming hot and very deep and unfenced in?

Steaming hot, yes.  Deep, probably.
But, yes, there was a fence - not much chance of falling in.
Plus, the smell made you keep your distance.  Nasty sulfur smell.
